Hockey East: ND routs BC in opener

The Hockey East quarterfinals opened Friday night four games. The second games of each series is Saturday with Game 3 on Sunday if needed.

Here are the results of Friday's games:

-- Notre Dame 7, Boston College 2 -- Top-seeded BC struggled in their opener, falling to the Irish. Stephen Johns and Peter Schneider each had two goals for Notre Dame. For the BC, Johnny Gaudreau extended his point streak to 30-consecutive games with an assist. Game 2 is Saturday at 4 p.m. ET.

-- UNH 1, Northeastern 0 -- Tyler Kelleher scored the only goal of the game and Casey DeSmith stopped all 27 shots as UNH beat Northeastern. Game 2 is Saturday night at 7 p.m. ET.

-- Providence 3, Maine 1 – Providence, the No. 3 seed, jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first period and outlasted Maine. Goalies Jon Gillies made 34 saves for the Friars. Game 2 is Saturday night at 7 p.m. ET.

-- UMass Lowell 3, Vermont 2 -- Adam Chapie scored with 1:17 left in regulation to give UMass Lowell the win over Vermont. Game 2 is Saturday at 7 p.m. ET.
