BOSTON -- Boston College successfully defended its Hockey East title by taking the 10th in conference crown in the program’s history with a 5-3 victory over 4-seed Merrimack on Saturday at TD Garden.
With the win, the Eagles (30-7-1) became the third team in the program’s storied history to reach the 30-win plateau.
The teams traded goals in the opening 20 minutes, ending the first period deadlocked at 2-2. After a scoreless second period, the Eagles, led by two Cam Atkinson strikes, pulled away from the Warriors (25-9-4) to secure their third league crown in the last four years.
Atkinson’s heroics earned him Most Valuable Player honors for the tournament.
