BOSTON -- The Red Sox made another internal move involving their bullpen, optioning right-hander Robert Manuel back to Triple-A Pawtucket while purchasing the contract of right-hander Fernando Cabrera from the PawSox.
Cabrera, who is listed at 6-4 and 225 pounds, has run off 6 saves in his past 10 appearances and has an 0.50 ERA in that span, striking out 16 while walking just 5 in 10 2/3 innings. This is his second season in the Sox organization. Last year he was 0-3 with a 1.71 ERA with Pawtucket, while going 0-0 with an 8.44 ERA with the Sox.
Manuel pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings in Thursday night’s 7-2 loss to the Rangers. He had no record and a 3.86 ERA in five appearances for the Sox.
