OAKLAND, Calif. -- Jed Lowrie’s return to the majors was eventful.
The Red Sox infielder was activated from the disabled list on Wednesday and quickly thrust into the lineup at shortstop, batting second. He went 1-for-2 with two walks, an RBI and a run scored. Defensively, he had four putouts, one assist and one error.
“I felt good,” he said. “That one throw kind of sailed on me a little bit, I think I was a little excited with [Rajai] Davis running, but other than that it went well. I was comfortable.”
Lowrie admitted his first game since last October was a little nerve-racking.
“Definitely,” Lowrie said. “If I wasn’t a little nervous in that game I would have to think about doing something else. We didn’t win and that’s the ultimate goal, but it was good to be back out there.”
Lowrie missed the first half of the season with a bout of mononucleosis.
