SEATTLE -- The Red Sox will need to make a roster move in order to activate starter Josh Beckett for Friday night’s game against the Mariners.

Given the fact the teams played 13 innings on Thursday before Boston pulled out an 8-6 win where the Sox used a total of five relievers, the transaction won’t be an easy one for Sox GM Theo Epstein.

“I’m not calling Theo tonight,” manager Terry Francona said. “I hope he was sleeping.”

It’s possible relievers Scott Atchison or Michael Bowden could be the move, but that would mean the Sox would have to rely on Tim Wakefield out of the bullpen if needed.

“He threw a pretty extended side [Thursday], so we’ll see,” Francona said.
