(Concluding a month-long series analyzing Buffalo Bills players who are on the roster bubble and where they potentially fit in 2014.)

Name: Stevenson Sylvester

Sylvester
Position: Linebacker

Age: 26

2013 stats: 9 games (one start), 12 tackles

Chance of making 53-man roster: 40 percent

Why he should make it: Stevenson was a late addition to the Bills' roster, signing last week. He offers more NFL experience than all but two other linebackers on the Bills roster. With Kiko Alonso sidelined for the season, the Bills will likely turn to Preston Brown and Nigel Bradham for significant roles in the defense, opening spots lower on the depth chart. If Sylvester can make his mark on special teams this summer then he stands a chance of cracking the roster over a comparable player like Ty Powell.

Why he shouldn't make it: We project the Bills to keep six linebackers, which may not leave a spot for Sylvester. Seventh-round pick Randell Johnson should have the upper hand on a roster spot, as could Powell, who impressed coaches in limited action last season. That puts Sylvester seventh on the linebacker depth chart and possibly out of a job. Unlike Johnson or Powell, who could be targets on waiver claims, Sylvester remained on the open market until July and could be available if the Bills need him during the season.

Closest competition: Johnson, Powell, undrafted rookie
