Bills CEO weighs in on Manuel status

11/6/2013

On Monday, Bills quarterback EJ Manuel confirmed that he had been medically cleared to practice, adding that the decision for him to play Sunday would be made by head coach Doug Marrone.

Bills CEO Russ Brandon elaborated on that process Wednesday.

"Dr. [John] Marzo, who is the head of our team medical operations, has cleared EJ. He's full go onto the practice field when he comes out [Wednesday]. He's been rehabbing. Last week, it was really ramped up. He responded well, and we anticipate that he will continue to respond well to a full workload of practice," Brandon told WGR 550 in Buffalo. "As that goes on, each and every day Coach Marrone will evaluate his progress, along with [offensive coordinator] Nate Hackett, and if he's ready to roll on Sunday, he'll get the green light."

Marrone said Monday that he wants to make sure Manuel is "110 percent" before he plays, but Brandon suggested Wednesday that Manuel already may be close to that point.

"We're cautious with all the guys that are nicked-up, certainly," Brandon said. "But unless he has any type of setback throughout the week of practice, he should be ready to go on Sunday."
