Chandler to remain starter at right guard

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Nate Chandler will remain the starter at right guard, even though Chris Scott is set to return after missing the past five games with a sprained knee.

Chandler was held out of Wednesday's practice with a sore elbow, but it was not something that concerned coach Ron Rivera. Scott had started seven consecutive games before the injury.

Rivera said he remains optimistic that running back Jonathan Stewart, who suffered a slight MCL tear in his right knee in Sunday night's 31-13 loss to New Orleans, would be available for the season finale against Atlanta.

He said the tear would not prohibit Stewart from playing, likely with a brace, if needed.
