Smith leaves game with left knee injury

December, 22, 2013
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Steve Smith, the Carolina Panthers' all-time leading receiver, left the first quarter of Sunday's NFC South game against the New Orleans Saints with a left knee injury.

His return is questionable.

Smith went down untouched after quarterback Cam Newton missed him on a third-down slant. He laid on the field in obvious pain for several minutes before walking off under his own power.

After being checked on the sidelines, he was taken the locker room.

Smith came into the game tied for the team lead in receptions with 63. In his absence, Domenik Hixon could play a bigger role.
