McClellin has been cleared by an independent neurologist. He is on track to play Sunday unless he experiences more concussion related symptoms during the week, the team announced.
“I don’t want to say it was a freak thing, it hit the right spot I guess,” McClellin said Wednesday of his head injury.
Smith said McClellin would have practiced on a limited basis if the team had taken the field on Wednesday. Though McClellin said he would play on Sunday, Smith wouldn’t make the same commitment until after seeing him practice this week, though he admitted McClellin was “making progress.”
“It was tough to watch,” McClellin said of Monday’s 32-7 loss to San Francisco. “I wanted to be out there and help them and I couldn’t.”
McClellin says he didn’t feel 100 percent until last Friday but is ready to get back in the lineup.
