FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- It doesn't sound like veteran New Orleans Saints safety Darren Sharper is interested in playing in another Cover 2 defense anytime soon.
"Playing in the style that I played in at Minnesota last year [Leslie Frazier's version of the Cover 2] I was more of a protector, as far as being a guy that kept everything in front of us to try and prevent a big play," Sharper said Monday in South Florida. "I think [New Orleans defensive coordinator] Gregg Williams' style of defense allows me to be a playmaker and trust my instincts, to attack the football."
"It's two different worlds....last year compared to this year."
Sharper managed only one interception for Minnesota in 2008, but exploded for nine picks this season, mainly due to a change of defensive scenery and philosophy.
The 34-year old veteran is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent, but if his words are any indication, you can probably count the Bears out of the mix.
