Hall of Fame former Dallas Cowboys receiver Michael Irvin joined "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN 1000 on Wednesday and had some strong takes on Richard Dent, the Mike-Martz-Jay Cutler relationship and Devin Hester.
Here are the highlights:
Asked if he believes former Bears great Richard Dent deserves to be in the Hall of Fame, Irvin said: "I don't know how you don't have the man in. Everyone talks about what is the most important part of every team? Defense. Defense wins championships, and [the 1985 Bears were] the greatest defense of all time. What are we saying here? And not only that, he showed up each and every year."
Irvin, who terrorized defenses with quarterback Troy Aikman and offensive coordinator Norv Turner, said the Cutler-Martz pairing will be fun to watch: "The personality match with Cutler and Martz, man, that's a marriage made in heaven. Are you serious? Mike Martz, as wild as he is with that football and as wild as Jay Cutler wants to be with that football? Lovie will have no control over that. You know Lovie will not have any control over it but it will be great."
Irvin intimated that Hester could be implemented a lot like former Ram Az-Zahir Hakim, who flourished in a Martz offense: "The speed of a guy like Devin Hester in the hands of a guy like Mike Martz with the arm of a guy like Jay Cutler is absolutely dangerous for everybody defending."
