The Bears drove the ball 70 yards, mainly behind the tandem of Jay Cutler and Johnny Knox, as the two combined to hook up three times for 33 yards, including a 9-yard touchdown strike. On second and 5 from the Redskins' 9-yard line, Cutler rolled to this left to avoid the rush and found Knox open in the back corner of the end zone for the score.
That final scoring drive helped ease the first half offensive struggles, as the Bears allowed three sacks and were 0 for 6 on third down. The Bears are now 0 for their past 28 third-down conversion attempts with Cutler at quarterback.
Earlier in the quarter, Washington tacked on three points when Graham Gano kicked a 46-yard field to cap off a drive that included a 22-yard completion from Donovan McNabb to Anthony Armstrong.
However, Washington failed on numerous occasions to capitalize on the great field position. The Redskins twice began drives at midfield, and once on their own 44-yard line.
