Bears' Davis makes most of chance

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Rashied Davis called a potential opportunity to contribute more offensively “awesome” when asked about the possibility of Earl Bennett sitting for the season finale at Green Bay because of an ankle injury.

Davis took advantage of Sunday’s opportunity by setting seasonal highs in yardage (41) and catches (four) in just a half as the Chicago Bears took a 3-0 halftime lead over the Green Bay Packers.

The Bears announced Bennett as inactive Sunday because the receiver is still hobbled by a sprained ankle sustained in the team’s 40-14 win over the Minnesota Vikings on Dec. 20. Bennett missed most of the week of practice, before rejoining the team for Friday’s workout.

Bennett called the possibility of sitting out for the season finale “for the birds.” So it’s likely coach Lovie Smith forced Bennett to sit against the receiver’s wishes.

Davis, meanwhile, has five passes for 50 yards through nearly three quarters.

Coming into the game, Davis had caught just two passes for 21 yards.
