LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs received recognition Wednesday as NFC defensive player of the week for his performance in the club's 24-18 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Briggs posted 10 tackles, including one for lost yardage, and an interception.
The pick marked Briggs' 13th over a nine-year career, which moves him to sixth in franchise history among linebackers. The linebacker has picked off a pass in eight of his nine NFL seasons, and Wednesday's honor gave Briggs his second NFC Player of the Week award.
In all, four Bears players have earned player of the week recognition. Brian Urlacher received defensive player of the week for Week 1. Devin Hester won the special teams honor twice (Weeks 4 and 6), and running back Matt Forte garnered FedEx Ground player of the week for his performance in Week 4 against the Carolina Panthers.
Briggs enters the bye week with four double-digit tackle games over the first seven games.
