CHICAGO -- Chicago Bears right tackle Gabe Carimi tweeted Tuesday evening that he participated in his first offseason workout earlier in the day when the club conducted it's fourth organized team activity (OTA) at Halas Hall.

"First day back at practice went great," Carimi tweeted. "Just need to keep up the hard work to get back to where I want to be."

Tuesday's workout was closed to reporters, so the extent of Carimi's on-field work remains unknown. Media will be allowed to observe Wednesday's OTA and speak with players coming off the field.

Carimi, the No. 29 overall selection in the 2011 NFL draft, opened last season as the Bears' starting right tackle before suffering a partial dislocation in his right knee during a Week 2 loss in New Orleans. The offensive lineman eventually underwent an arthroscopic debridement procedure on his right knee in early November before eventually landing on injured reserve on Nov. 19. Carimi then had an additional surgery in late December to repair connective tissue around his patella and medial collateral ligament.

The right tackle was forced to miss the first month of the Bears' voluntary workout program and the first three OTAs, but new offensive coordinator Mike Tice predicted that Carimi would return well before the conclusion of the team's offseason program on June 14.

"He's right on track," Tice said of Carimi on May 11. "We expect to see him at some point before the session is over. Sooner than later. So we're pretty excited about that."

Barring an unforeseen change or injury, Carimi is expected to reclaim his starting right tackle spot. Last week at the lone open OTA the Bears worked fifth-year offensive lineman Mansfield Wrotto and rookie A.J. Greene at right tackle while Chris Williams and J'Marcus Webb split reps at left tackle.
