CHICAGO -- The injury woes of Chicago Bears safety Major Wright continued Thursday, when the third-year veteran suffered a hamstring injury in the first quarter of the club’s preseason debut against the Denver Broncos.
"It wasn't anything major," Wright said. "I didn't get hurt. I just tightened up. I didn't really want to risk anything, so I just told the trainers it was kind of tight. I'll be alright."
Wright intercepted a Peyton Manning pass intended for Brandon Stokely with 9:21 left in the first quarter, but was unable to return to the game.
“It felt good," Wright said of the interception. "It feels like the right way to start the season off. I’m confident. I feel like I know what I’m doing. I’m just ready for the regular season to kick off.”
The injury is the latest in a lengthy series of setbacks for Wright, a third-round pick in 2010, who is expected to open the season as the starting strong safety. As a rookie, Wright missed five games early in the 2010 season because of a hamstring injury.
Wright played in just 12 games last season with 11 starts. He was inactive for two of the first eight games, before missing the club’s matchups with Denver and Seattle on Dec. 11 and Dec. 18 due to a shoulder injury.
