CLEVELAND -- The first quarter lacked star power with the Chicago Bears opting to start quarterback Josh McCown, running back Armando Allen and receiver Dane Sanzenbacher in the preseason finale over the likes of well-known stars such as Jay Cutler, Matt Forte and Brandon Forte.

Still, the reserves shined early in building a 7-0 lead over the Cleveland Browns thanks to an interception by Jeremy Jones that McCown and Sanzenbacher turned into a 30-yard touchdown.

Jones broke in front of a Colt McCoy pass intended for Jordan Norwood, and reeled off a 13-yard return to give the Bears possession at the Cleveland 30. McCown faked a handoff left on the next play, before firing down the seam to Sanzenbacher for the score. Officials immediately called for a booth review, questioning whether Sanzenbacher maintained possession on the one-handed grab, but upheld the call.

The Bears squandered a scoring opportunity earlier, when Robbie Gould missed wide left on a 35-yard field goal attempt that should have capped the club’s first offensive possession. That possession, led by McCown hitting 4 of 6 for 46 yards, lasted 11 plays.
