LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Chicago Bears receiver Brandon Marshall spit some card game vernacular in describing his last outing against the Indianapolis Colts, a team he will face Sunday in the regular-season opener at Soldier Field.

Marshall last faced the Colts in 2009 as a Denver Bronco on a record-setting day, but a loss nonetheless.

“I hit Blackjack, 21 catches,” Marshall said, smiling. “It was a record. That was pretty good. That was an exciting moment actually.”

The Broncos -- with former Chicago Bear Kyle Orton at the controls -- lost the game 28-16, but Marshall exploded to surpass Terrell Owen’s 20-catch single game record set on Dec. 17, 2000 with Owens as a member of the San Francisco 49ers.

At halftime of that ’09 loss in Indianapolis, Marshall had already racked up 10 catches. By the end of the third quarter, he had 15.

Interestingly, Marshall made those grabs against current Bears cornerbacks Tim Jennings and Kelvin Hayden, who at the time were both playing for the Colts.

“We’ve had game plans in the past I didn’t think he was gonna get a ball,” quarterback Jay Cutler said, “and he got 15 of them.”

That’s the hope the Bears foster headed into Sunday’s matchup.

Despite experiencing the milestone against the Colts in his last outing against them, Marshall made it clear he still laments the outcome of the game. Asked to recall the performance, Marshall grinned and started laughing.

“We lost,” he said.
