The season of now or never

There's an old saying about excuses. They say they're like ... gallbladders. And until a cholecystectomy, everybody has one.

Starting with the loss to the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship Game two seasons ago -- when Jay Cutler sprained a ligament in his knee -- the Chicago Bears have had a lot of excuses for the way their seasons ended. Last season it was Cutler fracturing his thumb after a 7-3 start, causing a tailspin that resulted in an 8-8 record and missing the playoffs.
