LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- ESPN released the Week 2 Power Rankings Tuesday, and understandably the Chicago Bears moved up just one slot to No. 8 after destroying the Indianapolis Colts 41-21 to open the season.

It makes sense for the victory to sway voters into pushing the Bears up only one spot, given the level of competition in the Colts with rookie quarterback Andrew Luck at the helm. Chicago and Minnesota are the only NFC North teams to move up in the rankings.

The Vikings jumped two spots to 28th after their overtime victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Green Bay Packers kicked off the season sitting atop the rankings, but dropped four spots to fifth after the club fell to the San Francisco 49ers (now No. 2) in their first season-opening loss since 2006.

The Detroit Lions round out the North. They tumbled one spot to 13th after edging the St. Louis Rams 27-23.

In describing the Bears, NFC East blogger Dan Graziano said, “Looks as though they might have an offense to go with their defense this season.”

Based on Chicago’s play against the Colts, things certainly seem to be trending that way for the Bears, which face a significant test Thursday night when they face the Packers at Lambeau Field.

If Chicago comes out of this one victorious, it certainly warrants serious consideration for the top five.
