"Maybe we're not as good as we thought we were," Urlacher said. "We've got a long ways to go, that's obvious. Maybe Green Bay is just that good, I don't know, we just didn't play well. They played good enough to do what they did to us."
Urlacher recorded eight total tackles in the loss but it's obvious he's still working his way back from the knee injuries that wiped out his entire offseason and the majority of his preseason. The middle linebacker was only able to practice one day (Wednesday) leading up to the Packers game as the club was forced to make a quick-turnaround after Week 1. With Urlacher in the middle for every snap, the Bears' defense did perform reasonably well as the held Aaron Rodgers and the Packers to just one offensive touchdown while recording five sacks and two takeaways.
But the middle of the field seemed to be open for much of the night as Rodgers threw for 219 yards - a number that could've been higher if not for key drops by Jordy Nelson and Jermichael Finley - and ex-Bears running back Cedric Benson rushed for 81 yards on 20 carries.
"They kicked our butts," Urlacher said. "We knew we had to outplay their defense and we didn't do that. We got to get the ball back for our offense and give them a chance to score. We thought we were a better team than we were today but we didn't play well. You have to give them all the credit, they made plays when they had to on offense, defense and special teams. We just have to go back to the drawing board and get better."
