LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- With the injury list growing, the Chicago Bears conducted a light workout on Wednesday without pads or helmets and six players didn't participate in the session, including running backs Armando Allen (knee) and Matt Forte (ankle), and safety Chris Conte (hamstring), who isn't expected to play Sunday when the team faces the Detroit Lions.

Linebacker Blake Costanzo (calf), cornerback Charles Tillman (ribs/elbow) and linebacker Brian Urlacher (hamstring) also didn't practice Wednesday, while defensive tackle Henry Melton (clavicle) and offensive tackle Jonathon Scott (hamstring) worked in a limited capacity.

“We have a couple of guys on the injury list right now, (which is) what you expect at this time of the year," Bears coach Lovie Smith said. “Beyond that, we're kind of staying on our same (light practice) routine we've used the last few weeks on what we do on a Wednesday."

Smith acknowledged that Conte will “be out a while," but Tillman isn't expected to miss time. Smith called Tillman's situation “general soreness" and also expressed optimism about Forte's prospects of playing.

“We're hopeful. He didn't finish the (Arizona) game. So that's a concern. But his ankle is looking pretty good and of course it's a big football game. We always play guys when they're healthy and ready to go. Hopefully that will be case with Matt. He's pretty encouraged by what's happening."

The Bears also listed cornerback Tim Jennings (shoulder) on the injury report, but he was a full participant at Wednesday's practice.

For the Lions, safety Louis Delmas (knee) was held out of practice, along with receiver Calvin Johnson (knee/ankle), defensive tackle Sammie Hill (toe), and tight end Brandon Pettigrew (ankle). Cornerback Chris Houston (hamstring) practiced in a limited capacity and the Lions listed cornerback Don Carey (knee) as a full participant.
