A standout at Princeton, Starks (6-foot-2, 240 pounds) played in 39 games in four collegiate seasons, and posted 298 tackles, three interceptions and three fumble recoveries. Starks also earned all-Ivy second-team honors during his junior and senior seasons, leading the team in tackles with 80 stops as a junior and 96 in his final year.
A native of Planfield, Ill., Starks provides depth for a linebacking group that has lost starting middle linebacker D.J. Williams indefinitely because of a strained calf. Rookie Jon Bostic has taken reps with the starters at middle linebacker in Williams' absence.
In other Bears news, the team postponed Friday's practice due to inclement weather. Gates are now scheduled to open at 2:30 p.m. for a 3 p.m. workout. The club cancelled the scheduled BBQ Bash, concert, in addition to the Kids Zone.
