The Chicago Bears signed free-agent defensive end Austen Lane on Monday.

Lane appeared in two games for the Detroit Lions last season before the Lions released him in advance of the start of NFL free agency on March 11.

A 2010 fifth-round draft pick (153rd overall) of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Lane spent three years (2010-2012) under current Bears defensive coordinator Mel Tucker where he recorded 66 tackles, three sacks and one forced fumble in 30 career games for the Jags.

Lane was born in Evanston, Ill., and played collegiately at Murray State.
