It’s not like quarterback is a huge need for the Bears this offseason, but if Jerry Angelo is looking to add another veteran, Chris Simms is now available after being reportedly released by the Broncos.
The Tampa Tribune reported back in 2008 the Bears were interested in trading for Simms -- then a quarterback for the Buccaneers -- although nothing ever materialized between the two teams. The Bears kept only two quarterbacks -- Jay Cutler and Caleb Hanie -- active during 2009, with Brett Basanez dressing as the emergency quarterback for the season finale against Detroit.
Simms has only played in 23 regular-season games since being taken in the third round of the 2003 draft.
