Urlacher vs. McNabb: Rivalry and respect

By Michael C. Wright

LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher snickered at the thought of Donovan McNabb playing in a Washington Redskins uniform, considering the quarterback spent the first 11 years of his career as a Philadelphia Eagles.

"I don't know why Philly traded him," Urlacher said, shaking his head. "It still baffles me. He's a good quarterback, one of the best in the NFL. He scrambles, throws it well, he's got a great arm. He knows what you're doing on defense; just a smart quarterback."

A Chicago native, McNabb visits his hometown for the first time in a Redskins uniform on Sunday when the Bears host Washington at Soldier Field. The matchup represents the sixth between McNabb and Urlacher with both players in the starting lineups for their respective teams.

"It's still special to come back home and play in front of family and friends. I always look forward to it," McNabb said. "It seems like we play the Bears every year, but it's still something I look forward to."

McNabb owns a 3-2 advantage over Urlacher in the overall series when they've both actually played. But Urlacher is coming off consecutive wins in outings against McNabb (2007 and 2008) in which he posted 13 and 10 tackles, respectively.
