Bears at full force at Thursday's practice
By Michael C. Wright
LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- It's a good problem, set to continue Sunday, it appears, when the Bears host the Philadelphia Eagles.
Based on participation at Thursday’s practice -- in which every player worked out -- the Bears should have the entire active roster at their disposal for the Eagles, which coach Lovie Smith said makes things difficult when trying to figure out which players to place on the inactive list.
“We have everybody available,” Smith said Wednesday, and “that’s why it’s been hard, too, on some of the inactives. Normally it kind of works itself out a little bit [with injuries]. But that’s why we have tough decisions each week when we decide who will be inactive.”
Not that the Bears are complaining. Their injury-free situation is a rarity this late in the season. A quick look around the NFC North reveals Detroit has three players out, one doubtful and four more questionable for its game today against the New England Patriots. Minnesota had listed one player as missing practice due to injury on Wednesday, and five more as participating on a limited basis. Green Bay, meanwhile, listed six players with limited participation, one missing with an ankle injury, and one as out for its contest Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.
Bears linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa (knee) practiced on a limited basis Wednesday, but participated Thursday in early drills during the portion of the session open to the media. Tinoisamoa is a key member of a defensive unit that's tied for the league lead in points allowed per game. The Bears and Green Bay Packers are yielding just 14.6 points per game.
Linebacker Hunter Hillenmeyer is the lone player on the club’s roster to have landed on the injured reserve.
Tinoisamoa, Roberto Garza, Chris Williams, and Lance Briggs have missed time because of injury along with backups Zack Bowman and Major Wright.
The Bears finished last season with six players on the injured reserve.
The Eagles, meanwhile, held out defensive end Juqua Parker (hip) and cornerback Asante Samuel (knee) on Wednesday. Both teams will update their official injury reports later today.
