3rd quarter wrap: Eagles 24, Bears 20

By Michael C. Wright.

PHILADELPHIA -- The Eagles pulled off an impression of the Bears in completing a time-consuming drive to start the second half, before feeding off Matt Forte's second fumble of the night in outscoring the visitors by 14 points in the third quarter to turn a halftime deficit into a 24-20 lead.

After taking the kickoff to start the third quarter, the Eagles used 6:42 to drive 80 yards in 15 plays. After utilizing a combination of Michael Vick passes, scrambles and completions to LeSean McCoy, the Eagles handed to the running back four consecutive times to work the ball down to the Bears 12.

Three plays later, Ronnie Brown punched it in for a 4-yard touchdown.

The Eagles gobbled up Forte’s second fumble of the night on the ensuing possession. Forte hadn’t fumbled in 347 touches prior to his turnover in the second quarter that resulted in a Brian Rolle 22-yard return for a TD.

Forte’s second fumble proved equally as painful. With 6:45 left in the third quarter, Trent Cole poked a ball out of Forte’s arms that was recovered by Mike Patterson. Referees originally ruled Forte down on the play, but the Eagles challenged and won to take possession at the Chicago 41.

Two plays later, McCoy scooted around left end for a 33-yard TD. Alex Henery's extra point made the score 24-17.

Robbie Gould scored Chicago’s only points of the quarter on a 38-yard field goal with 21 seconds left.
