Sources: QB Campbell agrees with Bears

By Jeff Dickerson

The Chicago Bears have reached an agreement on a one-year deal with quarterback Jason Campbell, according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Per league sources, Campbell -- formerly of the Oakland Raiders -- knew heading into free agency he would be signing somewhere as a backup, and found the Chicago job to be attractive. The two sides moved quickly at the on-set of free agency Tuesday to wrap up the framework on a deal.

Campbell, selected by the Redskins in the first round of the 2005 NFL draft, has made 70 starts in a six-year NFL career.

Bears coach Lovie Smith said earlier in the offseason the team needed to have a better plan at the backup quarterback spot. Former No. 2 quarterback Caleb Hanie is not expected to return, while veteran Josh McCown might still a candidate to be re-signed. Former fifth-round pick Nathan Enderle also is under contract.
