J'Marcus Webb: The Bears' poet laureate
By Kevin Seifert
We noted Monday that the Chicago Bears' left tackle situation has become something of a spectacle, and so it was with great anticipation that I noticed left tackle J'Marcus Webb's early-morning offering via Twitter and Facebook.
A day after offensive coordinator Mike Tice reiterated the team isn't pleased with his progress, Webb went all Shel Silverstein on us. Below is the rhyme Webb presumably wrote in response. All that's missing are visions of sugarplums:
"Every morning I wake up, and get out of bed, while thoughts of preparing to battle dance in my head. No visions of cupcakes and tacos. Just football and being the best Left Tackle! Jwebb Nation stand strong! I'll conquer this battle like King Kong! I'll protect our quarterback and won't allow any sack! I'm giving my best everyday and there simply isn't anything left to say------BEAR DOWN!!!!"
(Now Dasher! Now Dancer! Now Prancer and Vixen! …)
In all seriousness, the Bears must hope that Webb has taken this turn of events with an appropriate level of humor -- and not that he is getting a little fluttery under the pressure. Time will tell on that one.
