It's shaping up to be a busy week for Chicago Bears kicker Robbie Gould.

After he handles his standard place-kicking duties Thursday night in the Bears' preseason opener against the Denver Broncos, Gould has been granted permission by head coach Lovie Smith to travel to New Orleans so he can watch his younger brother, Chris, participate in the Arena Football League's ArenaBowl XXV on Friday evening.

Following the game, Gould is scheduled to return to Chicago and be on the field when the Bears resume practice in Bourbonnais at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

A professional kicker in his own right, Chris Gould is in his first year kicking for the Arizona Rattlers who advanced to the ArenaBowl to face the Philadelphia Soul, an organization that is owned by ESPN NFL analyst Ron Jaworski among others.

Chris Gould was four-year letter winner in college at the University of Virginia where he was used as both the punter and place kicker at various times in his career. He led the school in scoring in 2006 with 51 points and placed 29 punts inside the 20-yard line -- a Virginia record. After going undrafted coming out of the college, the younger Gould played two seasons for the Chicago Rush before he joined the Rattlers in 2012.

The duo's father, Robert, played professional soccer for the St. Louis Steamers from 1980-83.
