The Blackhawks tied a franchise record with three shorthanded goals in the first two periods of their game against San Jose. They lead the Sharks 4-0 after two periods.

Troy Brouwer scored at 17:45 of the opening period, taking a pass from Duncan Keith and snapping one by Evgeni Nabakov. In the second period, Marian Hossa, playing in his first game as a Hawk, started a scoring sequence when he blocked a shot attempt with his stick. Jonathan Toews pounced on it and fed it to a streaking Hossa for a breakaway short handed goal at 4:57. Twenty eight seconds later, on the same power play for the Sharks, another blocked shot led to a Patrick Sharp break away who got Nabakov down and out before roofing one.

The Hawks have scored three shorthanded goals in a game four other times. The last time was Nov. 17, 2007 against the Detroit Red Wings.

Dustin Byfuglien has the fourth Hawk goal. The Hawks have outshot the Sharks 29-11 through two periods.
