Jonathan Toews claims he had “no idea” Steve Yzerman was in the building. Yzerman is the General Manager for Team Canada and is taking one last look at players before picking his Olympic team at the end of the month.

He had to like what he saw. Toews scored in regulation and then in the shootout as the Hawks beat the Bruins for yet another home overtime win, 5-4. This one was a little different than the last two games that ended in Hawk shutouts.

“It was kind of back-and-forth there,” Toews said. “We haven’t had a game like that in a while.”

“There was a lot of emotion in the game,” Duncan Keith said after it was over. “Fans were into it. Friday night. It had a good atmosphere in the game. It was a good game all around. Up and down.”

Keith, Toews, Brent Seabrook and Patrick Sharp are all possibilities for Team Canada. Sharp scored the Hawks’ second goal, assisted by both Seabrook and Keith.

“We all want to play well,” Keith said. “We all want to play good every game but, like, [Yzerman] was there, so I guess that’s a good feeling we got the win.”

The Hawks gave up a late tying goal, but prevailed in the shootout to push their overtime record to 8-0-3 with seven of those wins coming at the United Center. Toews is 10 for 18 in his career in the shootout.

“I got a couple of moves that have been working,” Toews said. “I’m trying to use those while they last, before anyone can figure them out.”

And so what about making that Olympic team?

“It’s definitely not what any of us are thinking,” Toews declared.

One person in the building was.

NOTES:

-- Ben Eager was a late scratch because of an “upper body injury”. Joel Quenneville called him day to day.
