The Chicago Blackhawks lead the Columbus Blue Jackets 2-1 after the second period at the United Center.

The Hawks did all their scoring back in the first period, as both Jonathan Toews and Patrick Sharp connected. For Sharp, it was his league-leading eighth goal of the season, while Toews’ tally came on the power play. The Hawks now have a power-play goal in eight of ten games this season.

The Hawks were in control of the game until the final minute of the second period. The Jackets finally got on the board when Derick Brassard knocked in a rebound from close range with Nick Boynton nearby. After the goal, Boynton broke his stick by smashing it on the crossbar.

Moments later, Troy Brouwer was given a five-minute boarding penalty for a hit on Fedor Tyutin. The Hawks will be shorthanded for the opening 4:30 of the third period.

The Hawks outshot the Jackets 13-8 in the second period.
