The Chicago Blackhawks trail the New Jersey Devils 1-0 after the first period at the United Center.

The game was in sleep mode until New Jersey struck with a score by Jason Arnott who tipped in a centering pass by Patrick Elias. Elias grabbed a puck Brian Campbell shoveled to him behind and to the right of Marty Turco and then put it out front for Arnott.

The Hawks have given up four straight goals over two games in a similar manner, originating from behind or to the side of their own net.

The Hawks didn’t manage much offense though they spent a good amount of time in the Devils’ zone. They had just five shots in the period. Their best chance was a mini two on one when Patrick Sharp found Viktor Stalberg with a step on the defense but he couldn’t convert.

The Hawks were called for a too-many-men on the ice penalty and a delay of game. The Devils will open the second period on the power play.

Jake Dowell and Adam Mair fought late in the period with Dowell getting the decision.
