CALGARY, Alberta -- The Chicago Blackhawks trail the Calgary Flames 2-1 after one period at the Saddledome.

The Hawks struck first when Miikka Kiprusoff gave up a soft goal to Jack Skille. Skille came down the right wing before shooting one right by Kiprusoff.

But the Flames responded with two goals, one on the power play. First, Troy Brouwer turned a puck over in the Blackhawks zone’ and Niklas Hagman was able to convert. Then, with the man advantage, no one boxed out David Moss and he put back a rebound after a shot from the point.

The Hawks took three minor penalties in the first period which led to a lopsided shot total in favor of the home team. The Flames outshot the Hawks 18-9 in the opening 20 minutes.
