The Chicago Blackhawks lead the Columbus Blue Jackets 1-0 after the first period at the United Center.

Marian Hossa had an impactful opening 20 minutes, in his return from an injury which had him missing 10 games. He assisted on the lone goal of the period when he took the puck around the Blue Jackets' net, bringing the defense with him before centering. Tomas Kopecky finished the scoring play for his sixth of the season.

Later, Hossa caused a Blue Jackets slashing penalty, and a Hawks power play, though little in the way of scoring chances came of it.

Marty Turco, playing for the flu-ridden Corey Crawford, was sharp in his return to the net. He stopped 13 shots, including several good chances by Columbus on a power-play attempt.
