The Chicago Blackhawks lead the Columbus Blue Jackets 1-0 after two periods at the United Center.

The Hawks and Jackets played a scoreless second period. The only goal in the game came back in the first when Tomas Kopecky tallied on a Marian Hossa feed. Hossa, playing in his first game after missing 10 due to an injury, has looked sharp in the opening 40 minutes. So has Marty Turco who stopped 14 shots in the first period but only had to make seven saves in the second.

Jack Skille missed on a chance to pad the Hawks' lead when he was stopped on a penalty shot by Jackets goalie Mathieu Garon. Skille’s speed created the chance as he got behind the defense and was tripped as he went in on net.

The one part of the Hawks game that still seems to be on the Christmas holiday is the power play. In three attempts so far it has produced very little in the way of scoring chances.
