The Chicago Blackhawks continue to lead the Carolina Hurricanes 2-1 after the second period at the United Center.

There was no scoring in the middle 20 minutes, though the Hawks had some good chances. None were better than a breakaway try by Patrick Kane but he was unable to get a clean shot off after stick-handling goalie Justin Peters down.

Marian Hossa had a chance in a shorthanded situation while Tomas Kopecky was denied at point blank, late in the period. Carolina’s Jay Harrison saved a goal on a Hawks’ power play when he sticked out the puck on a Jonathan Toews’ try.

Toews and Bryan Bickell have the Hawks’ goals, back in the first period. Eric Staal has the Carolina tally.
