DALLAS -- The Chicago Blackhawks trail the Dallas Stars 1-0 after the first period at American Airlines Center.

Neither team had a plethora of good scoring chances in the opening 20 minutes, but Dallas cashed in on the best one. Steve Ott got behind the defense and Brad Richards found him with a pass from inside the Stars’ zone. Neither Niklas Hjalmarsson nor Brent Seabrook were able to recover in time while Ott scored his 11th of the year.

Both teams had a power play chance each, but very little in the way of offensive threats occurred during the man advantages.

Jake Dowell and Brandon Segal fought late in the period with Segal coming away with a bloodied face.

The Hawks had 11 shots on net to the Stars eight.
