Every day between now and the end of the regular season, I’ll keep you updated on the Western Conference playoff race as it relates to the Chicago Blackhawks:

The best thing about Wednesday’s action in the playoff chase is simply that the Hawks won, 4-0 over the Florida Panthers. It moved them up to the No. 5 seed in the conference, but things are as tight as ever.

Anaheim and Dallas produced yet another three-point game with the Ducks squeaking out a late win with an overtime goal. With the victory, Anaheim took over the No. 8 seed as they continue on a road trip Thursday in Nashville. The Ducks then come to Chicago for a Saturday showdown.

The Hawks are once again tied with two other teams, now with 88 points, but have the edge in tie-breakers. Just two points separate the 5-9 seeds which is where Dallas landed after its loss. The Hawks trail Phoenix for the No. 4 seed by three points but have played two fewer games.

It’s still a daily change in seedings depending on who is playing and who is watching. The Hawks have a light schedule this week but then things pick up with eight games in the final 14 days, including three with Detroit. Three more come against Eastern Conference foes and just two come against non-playoff contenders.
