Emery has work cut out to make roster

News from ESPN.com’s Scott Burnside that the Chicago Blackhawks are bringing in goalie Ray Emery for a tryout during training camp shouldn’t come as a shock.

After all the Hawks don’t have a true veteran netminder in the organization and are relying on an unproven rookie to back-up second year man Corey Crawford. It simply makes sense on several levels.

Having said that, did the Hawks lure Alexander Salak over from Europe with a one-way, two-year deal to start in Rockford or to back-up Crawford right away?

The bottom line is its still Salak’s job to lose. Owners don’t like to pay NHL salaries for players playing in the minors and Salak will make $625,000 no matter where he plays.

Simply put, Salak is signed while Emery is on a tryout but its good insurance -- they needed something in that department--if the Czech netminder can’t find his way early in camp or preseason games.
