CHICAGO -- Here's a quick look at the Hawks win over Calgary.

How It happened: The Hawks got first-of-the-year goals by Duncan Keith in the first period and Brent Seabrook in the second and Ray Emery got better as the game went along to improve to 3-0-1 on the year. Keith’s tally came on a rebound of a Patrick Sharp shot while Seabrook scored from the point on the power play. Emery’s best save came after Steve Montador turned the puck over at his blue line, in the second period, and Curtis Glencross went in alone. Emery made the point blank stop and 23 more. Viktor Stalberg and Patrick Kane added late goals.

What it means: The Hawks sweep their back-to-back set, improving to 10-4-3. For the second straight night they got offense from their defense. Keith and Seabrook are starting to play like 2009-2010 when they frequently joined the rush and got shots through from the point. The Hawks' puck-possession game in the offensive zone was stellar, led again by the play of Marian Hossa. There was some sloppy play in the third period as the Hawks held onto a lead but they prevailed.

What’s next: The Hawks have Saturday off before finishing a busy stretch of games when they host the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday.
