CALGARY, Alberta -- Ray Emery will start in net when the Chicago Blackhawks take on the Calgary Flames Friday night.
Emery came on in relief of Corey Crawford in Thursday’s 8-4 loss to the Edmonton Oilers but it remains to be seen if he’ll get an extended look as the starter.
“I’m only worried about tonight,” Hawks coach Joel Quenneville said before the game. “Let’s play well in front of him. Let’s play confidently in the tight areas around the net and look at the small picture.”
The Hawks have lost six in a row on the road and reside near the bottom of the Western Conference in most defensive categories, including goaltending.
“We want to make sure we talk about the small picture,” Quenneville continued. “Try to win a 1-0 game, or 2-1. That’s what we’re all about.”
The Hawks have won just once this year when scoring two goals or less. They’ll play Friday without forward Andrew Brunette, who left Thursday’s game with an upper-body injury. Quenneville indicated it’s something that could have occurred in Tuesday’s game against Vancouver and then became aggravated on Thursday.
“We’ll get a better assessment over time here,” Quenneville said “We don’t have a time frame on it.”
Michael Frolik will replace Brunette in the lineup. Frolik was a healthy scratch on Thursday against Edmonton.
