Hawks' uptick reflected in Power Rankings

CHICAGO -- Buoyed by a three-game winning streak after dropping nine in a row, the Chicago Blackhawks moved up three spots to No. 10 in ESPN.com's weekly Power Rankings on Monday.

Sunday's 3-1 win over St. Louis, after trailing 1-0 after two periods, was an impressive victory and undoubtedly made a difference in the decision to move the Hawks up from No. 13. The Hawks don't deserve much more respect than that considering the number of holes the team displayed during its losing skid.

Some of those holes might be in the process of being filled, starting with penalty killing, but the Hawks' power play remains a mystery. Goaltending is on the upswing as well, but until they display an ability to win low scoring games consistently they can't call themselves an elite team again. Not yet.

A move into the top 10 makes sense, but the Hawks have to prove more before another leap up the Power Rankings takes place. The Hawks take on new No. 1. Detroit, on Tuesday at the United Center.
