Here's a quick look at the Blackhawks' loss in LA on Saturday.

How it happened: The Hawks fell behind early due to special teams woes and never put up much of a fight in getting shut out for the seventh time this season. Los Angeles scored two power-play goals in the first period while the Hawks were scoreless in three attempts during the same timeframe. Dustin Brown scored both those goals then added a shorthanded tally in the second for the hat trick. Then he had an assist on a Willie Mitchell blast that ended Corey Crawford’s night. He gave up four goals on 10 shots. Jarret Stoll had three assists in the game for the Kings as well. On offense the Hawks had some decent looks early on, but Jonathan Quick didn’t give up any bad rebounds and once the Hawks got down in the game their battle level didn’t rise, it fell.

What it means: Special teams once again proved the difference as the Hawks’ penalty killing has taken a step back after a decent run during a win streak. Once again, forwards were unwilling to get into shooting lanes and defensemen simply made mistakes in their own zone. At the other end the Hawks power play is now 0 for it’s last 39 attempts after an 0-6 night on Saturday. They missed on a 5-on-3 and they gave up a shorthanded goal. Combining both sets of special teams it may have been one of the worst displays of the season. Playing on the road without Jonathan Toews was bound to be difficult and the Hawks made it even easier for the Kings by handing them the game with bad penalties, a bad power play and a bad penalty kill. It added up to a bad defeat.

What’s next: The Hawks move up the road to Anaheim to take on the Ducks on Sunday in the finale of their mini road-trip.
