As much as the wins themselves helped the Hawks in the rankings and conference standings it’s how they’re winning that’s most impressive.
A comeback victory at home against the Toronto Maple Leafs was nice, but back-to-back 2-1 road wins against playoff caliber opponents -- the Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings -- was the icing on the cake of a good week.
And to think the Hawks are learning to win without Jonathan Toews. They were 1-3 without him in the lineup after two bad road losses to the Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings recently. But since then they’ve won three in a row while Patrick Kane is proving he can at least fill Toews shoes as the top line center for a short time.
The Hawks are all of a sudden just one spot behind the Nashville Predators in the Power Rankings and have a chance at another big week with the playoff contending St. Louis Blues, New York Rangers and Kings on tap.
