CHICAGO -- In appropriate fashion, the Chicago Blackhawks enter the final week of the season in the same place they started the year, at least according to ESPN.com’s weekly Power Rankings.
The Hawks moved up two places from last week, from No. 8 to No. 6, and that’s exactly where the Hawks started the season.
They took a roundabout way in getting back near the Top 5. At one point the Hawks dropped into the lower half of the teams in the league but have rebounded with near stellar play for the last quarter of the season. And all of it was without captain Jonathan Toews.
Although the Hawks are the No. 6 seed in the Western Conference they finally moved back ahead of Nashville (No. 11) and Detroit (No.12) in the Power Rankings. The gap in the rankings between those two teams and the Hawks seems a bit much considering they are separated by a single point in the standings.
It’s been a miraculous run by Chicago without Toews -- as well as five games without the suspended Duncan Keith -- but the Hawks not only survived, they thrived, in finding their way back to the No. 6 spot in the rankings.
Right where they started.
