ST. PAUL -- The Chicago Blackhawks lead the Minnesota Wild 1-0 after the first period at the Xcel Energy Center.

The Hawks got on the board first after plenty of offensive pressure throughout the opening 20 minutes led to a goal. Jamal Mayers won a face-off to Michael Frolik who carried the puck around the Minnesota net and then sent it back towards the slot where Mayers cleaned up for his 6th of the season.

Late in the period Mayers was head butted by Nate Prosser during a scrum after the whistle. It drew blood and sent Prosser to the showers with a game misconduct. The Hawks got a five minute power play out of it as well and will open the second period finishing it off.

The Wild chased the Hawks for the puck and finished with just three shots on net in the first. That’s one off a season low for a period by a Hawks opponent, set against the Wild back in December
